Albuquerque is the most populous city in New Mexico, and it is situated in the north central part of the state, straddling the Rio Grande. It has a population of over 500,000. Albuquerque was founded in 1706 and is one of the nation's oldest inland communities. Albuquerque's elevation of 5312 feet makes it the highest metropolitan city in America.
