Founded in 1630 by English Puritan settlers, Boston is one of the oldest US cities. It is the most populous city in the region New England, comprising six northern-eastern states of the U. S. (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut), with an estimated population of about 670,000 residents. The seat of the Suffolk County and the capital city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is one of the most significant cities in U. S. history, being the scene of some of the key historical events such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party and the Battle of Bunker Hill (to name just a few). You can learn more about all these events at the Commonwealth Museum
. With a rich history like that, it is no wonder that Boston is a city of firsts - the first lighthouse
in the U. S. was built in Boston, it is home to the oldest public park
and the very first chocolate factory
was also built in Boston. When people think of Boston today, their first associations would probably be the famous sports teams from Boston - the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics.
