Macon or "The Heart of Georgia", as it is sometimes called for being almost in the geographical center of the State, is the county seat of the Bibb County. Actually, since 2014 it is officially a consolidated city-county since the governments of Macon City and Bibb County merged. Macon is home to many festivals, including the Pan African Festival
(an annual celebration of African American culture), Macon Film Festival
, with the main focus on the independent films from around the world, and Ocmulgee Indian Celebration
held at the Ocmulgee National Monument, where members of several Indian tribes gather annually to celebrate their culture and traditions. Speaking of the Ocmulgee National Monument
, did you know that this site preserves one of the largest and well-preserved earthworks (including burial mounds, temple mounds, and spiral mounds), that were built by the South Appalachian Mississippian culture one millennium ago?
